About Me
I’m Lola, a BACP-registered counsellor and founder of Horse Sense, a therapeutic practice offering Equine Facilitated Learning and Therapy for individuals, families and small groups.
My work is grounded in the intuitive and healing presence of horses. These remarkable animals have a natural ability to reflect our emotions and patterns, helping us connect more deeply with ourselves and others. In their calm, non-judgemental presence, clients often find space to explore, process and grow in ways that feel both natural and empowering.
With over a decade of experience across mental health and education, including work within special educational needs (SEN) settings, I bring both clinical understanding and practical insight to my practice. Since qualifying as a counsellor in 2016 and registering with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have supported children, young people and adults through counselling, mentoring and therapeutic outreach roles.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a mentor and outreach coordinator at Action East Devon with young people aged 11–25, supporting emotional wellbeing, resilience and confidence. I am also a Trustee at Pippins, my local community centre in Axminister. These roles help to keep me closely connected to the evolving needs of the communities I serve.
Horse Sense was born from a deep passion to make therapeutic and educational support more accessible, inclusive and responsive. My long-term vision is to grow this work into an organisation that offers affordable equine-assisted interventions to those who might otherwise struggle to access meaningful support.
At the heart of everything I do is a belief in connection to ourselves, to others and to the natural world. Whether working one-to-one or in small groups, I offer a safe and compassionate space where growth can unfold at your own pace.
If you’d like to explore whether equine facilitated interventions could be right for you or someone you support, I’d be very happy to have a conversation.
My Approach
I work from a person-centred and creative approach that honours the connection between mind, body and spirit. At the heart of my practice is a belief that every individual carries innate resilience, intuition and the capacity for growth. At times, these inner resources can feel distant or overshadowed by life experiences, stress or self-doubt. My role is to offer a safe and compassionate space where you can reconnect with your own inner wisdom, at a pace that feels right for you.
Being person-centred means our work is guided by you. I do not position myself as the expert on your life; instead, I walk alongside you with curiosity, respect and acceptance. Together, we gently explore what is unfolding in the present moment , your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and relational patterns, trusting that awareness itself can be a powerful catalyst for change.
Working creatively and in nature brings an embodied dimension to this process. The outdoor environment and the presence of horses invite a natural slowing down and grounding of the nervous system. Horses are highly attuned to emotional states and respond with honesty and immediacy. Their feedback is non-judgemental yet clear, often illuminating patterns around communication, boundaries, trust and self-belief in ways that feel experiential rather than purely intellectual.
I hold an awareness of the whole person, recognising that healing is not only cognitive, but also physical, relational and sometimes spiritual. By noticing what emerges in the here and now, space opens for new choices, deeper self-understanding and more compassionate ways of relating to yourself and others.
Above all, I aim to create a therapeutic relationship rooted in safety, authenticity and connection. From this foundation, growth can unfold naturally and sustainably.
